Why can’t you reason with an angry child?

“If your child dissolves into anger, hits, or gets upset, or if you find your anger rising with theirs, you deserve to find ways that build your relationship.”

Their anger blocks their ability to use good judgement. So how can we reach them positively and constructively? Hand in hand has put together a free guide on reaching your angry child. You can download it here.

What is the link between ADHD and depression?

“There are so many people out there who have been told the same horrible things and have the same, seemingly invisible hurdles they can’t overcome. There is nothing shameful about it and you are not alone.”

If left untreated ADHD can lead to other mental health issues, such as depression. A web artist called Pina made a comic that perfectly demonstrates what this connection is like. The Mighty did an interview on how her comic is raising awareness and what coping mechanisms she found useful. You can read more about it on their site.

How are hospitals changing the way they deal     with suicidal patients?

“Hospitals and behavioral-health centers are now redesigning their practices to include research-backed interventions that have been studied for years but haven’t, until now, been widely used.”

In the past hospitals treated suicidal patients only until they are no longer considered high risk. There was little to no follow up and the patients would often try again a few days later. The new methods have been decreasing the percentage of attempts in areas where they are being implemented. Read more about these techniques and the effect they are having in this Time article.

Do you identify as a perfectionist?

There is an increasing number of people that are experiencing the pressures of perfectionism. As a society we are demanding higher and higher standards be it in school or everyday life. A person diagnosed with perfectionism usually experiences other cofactors, the most common of which being depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. So how can we help? This moving TedTalk by social psychologist Thomas Curran talks about the issue of socially prescribed perfection and how we can help to lessen its impact in the future.
